Trading journal template

Manual trading journal template for disciplined futures and FX desks.

This template mirrors the Learn foundations modules and keeps every column strictly educational. It is designed for beginners refining structure and intermediates tightening cadence. Nothing here is a signal or promise—just a repeatable record you control.

Columns that stay accountable

Copy these headers verbatim so Reality Check and Goal Lab summaries stay comparable.

Session framing

Date, market bias, and plan confidence. Keep it factual so you can reconcile it with Reality Check summaries later.

Execution block

Entry/exit, size, max planned risk, and any checklist flags. These feed TradeQuality reviews without storing broker data.

Behavioral notes

Did cadence slip? Were there revenge impulses? Capture it in plain language for the Learn execution modules.

Post-session audit

One line on expectancy (win/loss vs. planned) and next action. This feeds Goal Lab targets when you are ready.

Beginner-friendly routine

  1. Copy the columns above into your spreadsheet or notebook. Do not connect it to a broker or automation.
  2. Before each session, fill the framing row and paste your Pre-Trade Checklist result so you know the context you started with.
  3. After each trade, update the execution block and tag any drift (over-sizing, jumping markets, rule fatigue).
  4. At the end of the day, summarize the behavioral notes and send the highlights to your Learn queue so you know what to study next.

Need a reminder? The Learn → Foundations → Journaling cadence module walks through the same order.

What to do after logging

When the sheet is filled, compare it against Reality Check insights and the Pre-Trade Checklist status. You are looking for factual mismatches: sizing drift, cadence changes, or rules skipped under pressure.

Run the checklist again

If the Pre-Trade Checklist failed, document why before the next session so the note is fresh.

Inspect risk math

Cross-check the position sizes captured in the template with the Smart Risk Tool so the guardrails match.
